Authorities Say Drunk Man Fired 150 Rounds Into Hillside

It may be putting it mildly to say that Rancho Tehama Reserve is still a little on the edge when it comes to somebody shooting a gun from a moving vehicle. Just before 10 O’clock Monday night, multiple 9-1-1 callers reported that very scenario, which is of course horribly reminiscent of the deadly shooting incident that took place in Rancho Tehama last November. Tehama County Sheriff’s Deputies with assistance from the CHP quickly located the silver Honda Accord described by callers, and a high risk traffic stop with guns drawn was done on Rancho Tehama Road at Hillcrest. It was soon allegedly discovered that a 40 caliber semi-automatic handgun had been thrown from the car when the deputies were seen approaching, and the gun was found about a quarter mile back on the roadside, with 5 live rounds loaded in it. The passenger of the car, 22-year-old Johnathan Nava-Garcia, reportedly admitted that the gun was his, and said he had fired about 150 rounds “safely” into a hillside. He denied shooting from the car, and no witnesses could be found who saw him do it. Nava-Garcia was arrested for possession of a loaded and concealable firearm in a vehicle. The driver, 32-year-old Pablo Garcia, was arrested for drunk driving.
