Access is extremely difficult for firefighters working an arson fire near Hoopa in Humboldt County. The Tulley Fire was started intentionally around 4 O’clock Monday afternoon off of Highway 169 and Martin’s Ferry Road northwest of Weitchpec. It’s burning on very steep and rugged terrain in heavy timber and slash that hasn’t burned in over 30 years. There are more than 1400 firefighters on scene. The estimated size of the Tulley Fire is 505 acres, with 10% containment. One residence and one outbuilding have been destroyed and another 40 structures are threatened. Evacuation orders remain in place.
A fire that broke out near Yreka Wednesday afternoon quickly led to evacuations. The “Grade Fire” is about 2 miles north of Yreka off Highway 263. The fire has burned 400 acres and is just 5% contained. Evacuations have been ordered for the Hawkinsville area, with about 150 structures threatened. Engines from Shasta County Fire and Redding Fire have responded to calls for mutual aid.
