Man Caught After Assault & Robbery In North Redding

A man tried to rob a “Pokemon Go” player at gunpoint on Lake Boulevard Thursday night, according to Redding Police. Officers were called at 8:40PM to Poppie’s Pizza, which is about a quarter mile south of Keswick Dam Road. 47-year-old Geoffrey Porter was playing the popular smart phone based augmented reality game when 30-year-old Jerald Brian Richison allegedly approached and pointed a black handgun at him, demanding his cell phone. Porter refused to hand over the phone and punched Richison, who responded by beating Porter to the ground in front of the restaurant and then running away. Several bystanders witnessed the attack. Officers searched the area with help from a CHP helicopter and found Richison a few blocks away near Panorama Drive. A replica handgun was found nearby.  Richison was booked into jail for robbery.
