When a man stepped out of his car during a road rage episode he was met with gunfire, according to Redding Police. Just after 5 O’clock Friday afternoon 20-year-old Ryan Clements and his girlfriend, 21-year-old Samantha Prior, both of Old Shasta, were driving north on Buenaventura Boulevard from Placer Street. In front of them was a pickup truck driven by 34-year-old Francisco Xavier Fernandez of Yuba City. Clements said Fernandez was intentionally blowing excessive exhaust smoke in his direction. As both vehicles turned west on Eureka Way words were exchanged and both men stopped and got out. Fernandez allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds Clements and his car, where prior was sitting. Clements scrambled back into his drivers seat but one of the bullets struck his left arm.  Police say Fernandez fled back down Buenaventura, then west on Placer. His truck was spotted by a CHP airplane pilot and eventually stopped on Middletown Park Drive. He was booked into jail for attempted murder. Clements was treated at Mercy Hospital for his gunshot wound.
