A local transgender man was severely beaten with a rock early Friday. At 12:40AM Redding Police were called to Mercy Medical Center. The unidentified victim had serious head injuries. He said that he and 2 other transients were under a bridge near Eastside Road and Breslauer way drinking beer when the 2 companions wanted him to go buy more beer for them, but he refused. When he lay down to go to sleep he was hit in the head with a rock at least three times before the man and woman robbed him of the money in his pockets while calling him derogatory names related to his transgender status. Police say that makes it a hate crime. The male suspect, whose name is Ron, is a white man in his 40’s, 5-foot-8 and 155 pounds with brown hair, brown eyes and tattoos on his left arm. The female suspect, whose name is Sherry, is a white woman in her 30’s, 5-foot-6 and 130 pounds with dirty blonde hair and green eyes.
