Man Still Sought After Escaping Pursuing Deputies

Local law enforcement agencies are still looking for a Happy Valley man who escaped from them on Thursday afternoon. A CHP Officer was sitting on the side of Happy Valley Road between Palm and Olinda when he saw an Olds 88 in his rear-view mirror. When the driver saw him the olds made a quick u-turn and sped away, so the CHP Officer spun around and caught up with lights and siren blaring. The Olds went up Palm Avenue at over 70 miles an hour, and eventually ended up on Olinda Road, where it turned into a driveway and stopped at an olive orchard. The passenger, believed to be 46-year-old David Shott, ran into the orchard with a pistol in his hand. The driver, 55-year-old Melinda Morland, stayed with the car and was arrested. An extensive search for Shott was unsuccessful.
