A huge spill of raw untreated sewage has been released into waterways in Siskiyou County, and officials are warning of a public health risk. The City of Weed Public Works Department announced the leak Tuesday near Park and Grove Streets. Over 10,000 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled into Boles Creek, which is a tributary to Lake Shastina. It was believed that the sewage would reach the lake sometime Tuesday night. The public is warned that people and pets should not come into contact with the water downstream of the spill. If anyone touches the water and becomes ill they should call 9-1-1.
