A 31-year-old Gerber man shot and killed Wednesday morning was not a burglar, according to the Tehama County Sheriffs Office. Deputies were called to the Mariposa Avenue home of Kory Daniel Leffler, who told dispatchers that he shot a man who had been breaking into his house. When deputies arrived they found Joshua Daniel Pacheco Sr. lying in the middle of the front yard dead from multiple gunshot wounds. Leffler and an unidentified woman were taken to the sheriff’s office in Red Bluff for questioning. Tehama County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Yvette Borden says the two 31-year-old Gerber men had a history. After an extensive interview by detectives, Leffler was arrested and booked into jail for murder. A motive has not been established.
