A Corning man once charged with solicitation of murder for allegedly seeking to have his wife killed has been sentenced on domestic violence charges. The murder-for-hire charges were dropped last year after 30-year-old Travis Kilburger pleaded guilty to felony spousal battery with special enhancements and false imprisonment by violence. Kilburger and his wife had been having relationship troubles and were living apart when she stayed with him one night. She awoke in the middle of the night to find her ankles were bound. He held his hand over her mouth until she passed out and when she awoke again he was holding a gun threatening to kill her. Kilburger was in jail when district attorney investigators were reportedly tipped off that he was trying to hire someone to kill his wife and another person. He was apparently offering cash and a vehicle in exchange for the murder. Kilburger was sentenced this week to nine years in state prison.
