Investigators Name Person Of Interest In Fatal Robbery

The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office has named a man they’re seeking in connection with a botched home invasion west of Corning Monday morning. Deputies were called just after 10AM for shots fired at a home at the west end of Rancho Tehama Road.  They found 38-year-old Moises Salgado Farias lying dead in the front yard. Someone had apparently shot him from inside the house. Witnesses said there had been an attempted home invasion that was repelled by the armed residents of the home. There were two other suspects in a white pickup who showed up at a Chevron Station on Solano Street in Corning. The passenger stumbled into the store and collapsed with a gunshot wound to his torso. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. His name has not been released. The driver of the truck took off running from the gas station. Detectives believe him to be 23-year-old Alfonso Antonio Vargas, and he’s wanted for questioning. Witnesses in Rancho Tehama said that after the gunfight the men who lived at the house fled. There are apparently several of them, and the sheriff’s office has been looking for them as well. It’s not known if any of them were injured in the shootout.
