A 17-year-old suspected gang member was arrested Thursday for a shooting that occurred in December. On the 6th of December, Redding Police were called to a call of shots fired in the area of Akard Avenue and Fell Street. Officers determined that a gang related shooting had occurred. Officers say that a suspected gang member fired at least six rounds from a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun at three people. One of the rounds pierced a jacket worn by one of the victims, but missed his abdomen. Another bullet traveled through a wall at 2739 Akard Avenue and was found inside the living room. Investigators learned that during the shooting the suspect was yelling gang related references at the victims. The victims reported that the shooting occurred after an argument escalated into an attempted robbery. During the subsequent investigation, officers were able to identify the shooter as a 17-year-old boy who had ties to the Sacramento area as well as to Redding. Thursday at 3:30PM officers found the boy in the 8000 block of Churn Creek Road, and he was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into Shasta County Juvenile Hall on numerous felony charges including attempted murder. His name is not being released due to his age.
