Names have been released of the two men shot by a CHP Officer during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 late Friday night. At about 11:45, the officer pulled over a Hyundai sedan on the northbound side north of Hooker Creek Road. The car was stolen and the wanted occupants were considered armed and dangerous, but the officer didn’t know that because the license plates were stolen from a different car. The officer was talking to the two men about why he pulled them over when he was shot in the right thigh by the driver. The officer then drew his gun and returned fire, striking both the driver and passenger. The driver, 18-year-old Austin Tyler Macon of Renton, Washington, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The passenger, 21-year-old Teikivahimetani Guilloux-Chevalier, is hospitalized in critical condition. The officer has since been released from the hospital, but his name has not been made public. The northbound side of the freeway was closed for about 12 hours on Saturday for the multi-agency investigation. The Hyundai and the gun had both been stolen from the Las Vegas area. Las Vegas authorities have been contacted and are working with the Tehama County Sheriffs Office.
