Man Sentenced To Life In Prison For Fatal Crash

A 31-year-old man has been given a life sentence for the traffic collision death of a 77-year-old man in February of last year. The victim, Wallace “Pete” Shelton of Anderson, pulled his Ford pickup away from the stop sign at Thomas Road and onto southbound Highway 273 directly into the path of Tyler Schweizer of Redding, who was driving his Chevy pickup at 99 miles an hour. The Chevy struck the driver’s side door of the Ford, forcing both vehicles into the northbound lanes.Shelton died of his injuries the following day.  Schweizer has a history of bad driving, including a high speed chase, a DUI crash and multiple other DUI’s. In April a Shasta County jury found Schweizer guilty of second degree murder and gross vehicular manslaughter. On Friday he was given the maximum sentence of 15 years to life in prison.
