A big rig driver who crashed off Interstate 5 in Cottonwood Tuesday night was a Red Bluff man, according to the Shasta County Coroner’s Office. 47-year-old Scott Adrell Westerfield was driving a Freightliner hauling a 53-foot Wal-Mart box trailer southbound when the tractor-trailer left the pavement north of the Main Street Cottonwood exit, went down an embankment and up the other side, and came to rest in a stand of small Oak trees. The CHP had said Westerfield may have suffered a medical emergency prior to running off the road. A post-mortem exam is scheduled.
