Man Allegedly Shot In The Head By Young Neighbor

A 17-year-old Cottonwood boy is charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting his neighbor in the head. Although Jason Staley is a minor, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office has released his name because of the nature of the alleged crime. The dispute apparently began between Staley and his family over some personal property. The conflict became physical and Staley’s mother called the neighbor, 51-year-old Glen Totten, over to the house to help because he’s a friend of Staley’s. When Staley’s mother and Totten went to talk to Staley in his bedroom another argument broke out and eventually Staley reportedly brandished a gun and fired a round, which grazed Totten’s head. Totten was transported to Mercy Hospital to be treated for his non-life-threatening wound. Deputies found Staley in his backyard with a semi-auto pistol in his possession. He was booked into juvenile hall.
