Travel Agent Takes Plea Deal, Faces 4 Year In Prison

A Redding travel agent has basically admitted to ripping off his clients. Jason Olson, the owner of true vacation travel, was arrested last September. He used money paid to him by his clients, or in some cases used their credit card information, to pay for other peoples’ vacations without the knowledge or consent of the payer. He also took payments from clients for travel purchases, such as flights and hotel rooms, but never actually booked the reservations for them. Olson was facing 70 criminal counts, including 60 felonies, with an aggravated white collar crime” enhancement due to the pattern and volume of fraudulent crimes. He had previously bilked people in Rhode Island in the same way. On Tuesday Olson entered pleas of no contest to 6 felony counts. As part of the plea agreement Olson was ordered to pay more than $42,000 in restitution. He also faces up to 4 years in prison when he’s sentenced on August 2nd.
