A reported rape on the Sacramento River Trail Saturday morning may not have happened at all, according to Redding Police. The woman called 9-1-1 at around 8:30AM from Washington Avenue, where she had run for help. She said she had been in the area of the Ribbon Bridge when she was assaulted and raped. Since the initial report, the woman has been interviewed multiple times and has provided two other locations where the attack may have happened. One of those locations was eliminated by video surveillance. The other location was Washington Avenue, where she was when she called 9-1-1. She eventually said she knew where the weapon used in the assault was hidden and showed investigators where she had buried it. Police had not previously mentioned that a weapon was reported as being used. Through interviews with the woman and witnesses, investigators say they’re certain the attack did not occur on the trail, if it occurred at all. Apparently none of the woman’s statements have been substantiated.
