A shooting in Cottonwood is under investigation after the shooter claimed self defense. Just after 10 O’clock Saturday night Tehama County Deputies and medics were called to a home on McAuliffe Road. They found 46-year-old Todd McAuliffe suffering from two gunshot wounds. He had been shot in the torso and the left bicep and was transported to Mercy Hospital in Redding. When detectives interviewed the man suspected of shooting McAuliffe, he said he had shot him to defend another person who was being accosted by McAuliffe. Apparently no arrest has been made as detectives try to sort out the stories.
