A Redding Animal Control Officer was rescuing two dogs from a hot car in the Walmart parking lot when he was attacked by the owner, according to Captain Lee Ann Smith. She says that during the Summer her officers respond to at least 10 calls a day reporting dogs left in hot cars. She says when it’s 90 degrees outside, the inside of a car reaches 120 degrees very quickly. Sunday afternoon Officer Travis McIvor responded for the call at Walmart. Two dogs were in a van with the windows rolled up. It was in the shade but the inside was still 115 degrees. After trying to reach the owner, McIvor got help from two Ashley Furniture employees and they got the dogs out. After placing one dog in his vehicle, the officer had the other dog when the owner ran up and fought the dog away, then got into the animal regulation vehicle to get the other dog. As Redding Police were on their way, the dog owner, identified as 29-year-old Ezequiel Coronel of Oak Run, took off onto Dana Drive and tried to cross over to the other side but after going over the median he rammed a truck and was stuck until police arrived and arrested him.
