Firefighters Respond To Several Fires Tuesday Night

Fire crews were kept busy Tuesday night with simultaneous fires.

– At around 7:30 an explosion involving an enormous sawdust hopper at the Sierra Pacific Lumber Mill in Anderson sparked a major fire.
– At 7:45 a fire was sparked by a big rig hauling a Wal-Mart trailer that lost a wheel a little north of Knighton Road. That fire burned in a long strip up to the Smith Road overcrossing.
– At about 8 O’clock a fire was burning in pastures of grass and fields of weeds in Churn Creek Bottom just north of the river. Structures were threatened but an aggressive response prevented any structural damage. About 15 acres burned.
– A small vegetation fire broke out around 8:40 off of North Market and Riverside but it was quickly brought under control by Redding Firefighters and a man was arrested for intentionally starting the blaze.
