FedEx Driver Delivered By Rescuers

A FedEx delivery driver from Redding has been rescued after sliding off of a remote Siskiyou County road and out of sight. At 8:30 Monday night, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office was told that 26-year-old Jesse James Flagg had not returned home. His last known sighting was when he dropped off a package in Happy Camp at around 3:30 Monday afternoon. His next delivery was supposed to be at another location along Highway 96, so rescuers searched intently along the roadway between the two points. There was no sign of Flagg or the delivery van, so Tuesday morning a large scale search effort was launched along the 70 miles between Happy Camp and Yreka. Just after 10am a CHP helicopter crew spotted skid marks going off the road between Cave Mountain and China Point. About 20 feet below the road was the delivery van. After the crash, Flagg had gotten out of the van but then slid another 60 feet down the embankment, where he remained until rescuers arrived. He was conscious, but had spent the night precariously on the hillside. He was flown to a hospital in Medford.
