The Hirz Fire near Lake Shasta is growing at a moderate rate Thursday despite low overnight moisture recovery. The fire has grown to 11035 acres with containment up to 7%. On the western flank of the fire, bulldozers have created additional fire lines from Lower Salt Creek to the Green Mountain Summit. On the southern flank crews have kept the fire north of Gilman Road and have created lines in the Hirz Mountain Road Area. Most of the fires growth is to the north and it remains west of Gilman Road. Most of the activity is in the Nawtawaket Creek Drainage along the west side of the McCloud River. Crews will be doing additional burnout operations in the area and residents should expect too see additional smoke. No additional evacuation were issued overnight. Residents living along Gilman Road should be extra cautious as fire equipment will be in the area. A soft road closure is in place between the Old Mill Road intersection and the McCloud River Bridge. A number of campgrounds and boat launches are closed. A public meeting is planned for Friday night starting at 6PM at the Lakehead Lions Club on Mammoth Drive.
