Butte County Sex Offender Who Faked Death Found In Florida

A wanted Chico sex offender who faked his death has been arrested in Florida. In 2015, Chico Police detectives, with the assistance of Homeland Security Agents, served multiple search warrants related to an investigation of child sexual assaults in 2008 and 2009. In addition to the search warrants, Michael Patrick Manning was taken into custody on an arrest warrant issued during the investigation. The victim reported to have been sexually assaulted by Manning when she was 12 to 14 years of age. Detectives developed evidence and probable cause to support the victim’s allegations. Manning was booked on 5 counts. He posted bail and was released from Butte County Jail. A short time later, Manning was arrested again for possessing and manufacturing child pornography. He again posted bail. A year later, Manning failed to appear in court for sentencing. In October, 2016, the Park Service located a rental car leased to Manning near the Golden Gate Bridge bearing a suicide note. Manning’s body was not located. The U.S. Marshal’s Service and FBI became involved in the search, following multiple leads. Last month, leads led to Florida. Responding to a burglar alarm in Key West, deputies found a man living in an unlocked storage trailer. He claimed to be William Wallace Littlejohn, utilizing a passport and U.S. Navy ID card.After being fingerprinted, he was positively identified as 58-year-old Michael Manning. Manning is in custody on no-bail warrants, awaiting extradition.
