A 30-year-old man has been ordered to stand trial for the murder of a local Redding-area attorney. 69-year-old Richard Maxion was shot to death at his Centerville home on February 12th. The sheriff’s office says Kody James Smith called 911 to say he had shot a man and two dogs inside a house on Equestrian Drive off Placer Road west of Redding. Arriving deputies detained Smith and found Maxion in the living room with his two dead dogs. Maxion was taken to a hospital, but died of the gunshot wounds. The sheriff’s office says Smith had been living at the home for about 2 months. A preliminary hearing was held Tuesday and Smith was held over for trial. He’ll be arraigned on May 29th.
