Deputies Arrest Two At Lake Shasta On Independence Day

How drunk was the boater? So drunk he thought he could get away from the cops by swimming. That’s according to Shasta County Sheriff’s Boating Safety Unit Deputies working on Lake Shasta on the Fourth of July. At around 6:15PM Thursday evening someone reported that 31-year-old Robert Callahan of Klamath Falls was very intoxicated and at the helm of a ski boat that had just left the gas dock at Bridge Bay. Deputies caught up to the boat near No Name Island and stopped it. When told to step into the deputy’s boat to take a field sobriety test, Callahan reportedly took off his hat and his life vest and jumped into the water. He swam about 50 yards away, then stopped and asked the deputy to come pick him up. He failed the sobriety test, as well as a breathalyzer that showed a blood alcohol level of. 29%. He was arrested for boating under the influence. The boat’s owner, Rylie Hogue, was arrested for being drunk in public.
