Smoke has been drifting into Redding from a wildfire burning in Southwest Oregon. The Milepost 97 fire broke out late Wednesday night about a mile southeast of Canyonville and has grown to more than 11,000 acres. It’s is burning in very steep, rocky terrain with limited access into and around the fire. The fire is 10% contained. A firefighter was injured Monday when he was struck by rolling debris. Authorities say the firefighter was transported early Monday to a medical center, where he was treated and released. A number of evacuations have been ordered. More than 1200 firefighters are on scene.
There are two fires burning in Northern Siskiyou County. The Community Fire started Saturday near the Klamath River Community Center. It is 35 acres and 60% contained. Nearby is the 83 acre Tree Fire, burning near the Tree of Heaven Campground. It’s also 60% contained. Air quality in Southern Shasta County is moderate as of Monday morning.
A fire burning in Modoc County has grown rapidly. The Tucker Fire started Sunday afternoon along the east side of Highway 139 near Dry Lake. It’s burning in a fairly remote area and no homes are threatened. The last report puts the fire at 2,461 acres. Although no containment is reported, bulldozers have been working the flanks and hand crews are working areas inaccessible by the bulldozers. The fire had been threatening a 500 kilovolt transmission line, but the Forest Service says that threat has been mitigated.
