Council To Discuss New Casino Project, Proposed Costco Shopping Center

The Redding City Council will hold a special meeting Monday to discuss the new expanded Win-River Casino project proposed for a site next to Interstate Five at the southern edge of town. There will be time allotted for public comments, which could get lively as there is already a vocal and organized opposition, as well as a motivated group of supporters. The council may finally adopt an official position on the project, or they may not. The meeting is Monday at 5:30PM in the council chambers at city hall.

Tuesday during their regular meeting the city council will hold a public hearing on the large Costco-anchored shopping center proposed for the intersection of Bechelli Lane and South Bonnyview Road. The “River Crossing Marketplace” would include a 152,000 square foot Costco, including a gas station with up to 30 fueling positions and around 62,000 square feet of other businesses. Traffic mitigation plans include a multi-lane roundabout at the intersection of Bechelli and South Bonnyview. The planning commission has unanimously voted to recommend the project.
