PG&E customers may experience another “public safety power shutoff” this week. The National Weather service has posted a red flag warning starting Wednesday. The utility is considering another precautionary shutdown of electricity service to more than 600,000 customers in parts of 30 counties, including 28,000 in Shasta County, 24,000 in Tehama County and 30,000 in Butte County. The main period of weather risk is early Wednesday morning through midday Thursday. More than 10,000 customers in Butte County had their power turned off from Saturday night through part of the day Sunday. PG&E spokesperson Brandi Merlo says company meteorologists are monitoring the conditions closely. Merlo says the best way to stay informed on the possible outage is to make sure your contact information is up to date on the PG&E website. Customers can also call 1-866-743-6589 to update their information. Merlo adds it’s also important to plan for medical needs like medications that require refrigeration or devices that need power. After the weather conditions improve, power cannot be restored until crews inspect equipment for potential damage.
