Six people are facing federal charges for claiming and receiving FEMA benefits as a result of the Camp Fire. The six defendants are accused of “disaster fraud” for claiming their homes were destroyed in the fire that devastated the Town of Paradise. One Chico man, 30-year-old Evan Palmer, apparently got more than $26,000. Another claimant lives in Willows. If convicted, the defendants face up to 30 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
