State Grant Will Help Educate Teen Drivers About Dangers Of Impaired Driving

Shasta County has received a state grant to address the issue of impaired and distracted driving among young drivers. The $340,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety will be administered by the Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency. According to statistics, Shasta County ranks 14th in the number of alcohol-related accidents among California’s 58 counties. Overall, novice teenage drivers are twice as likely to be involved in fatal cashes. In 2017, more than 3,200 teen drivers were involved in fatal crashes. HHSA will work with Shasta County Chemical People Injury Prevention Council of Shasta County to educate young drivers about safe driving in general, as well as the increased risk of impaired driving.
