Tehama DA Says Price Gougers Will Be Prosecuted

Since the Governor declared a State of Emergency due to the Coronavirus, one effect is a prohibition on price gouging. The Tehama County District Attorney’s Office says they’ll investigate reports of such behavior and prosecute if appropriate. Price gouging is defined as raising the price more than 10% on lodging, food, emergency goods and services, medical supplies, building materials, fuel, and some other categories. Gouging is punishable by a year in jail and a $10,000 fine, as well as civil enforcement of $5,000 plus restitution.
