Most Schools Are Closed Across North State Due To Covid-19

Coronavirus concerns have left very few schools still operating. Administrators have suspended all schools in the Shasta Union High School District and the Redding Elementary School District. Schools in the Gateway Unified School District and the Enterprise Elementary School District were open Monday, but will be closed Tuesday and for an indefinite time after that. Shasta College, Simpson University, and Chico State are closed. The colleges and some of the other schools will attempt to make as many classes as possible available online, and students will be notified. Schools in the Cascade Union School District, Happy Valley, Fall River, Grant, North Cow Creek, Oak Run, Chrysalis, Pacheco/Prairie, Columbia, Junction, Mountain Union, Redding STEM Academy and many other Shasta County Schools are closed, while some are still evaluating their options. Open schools include Indian Springs, Millville and Rocky Point Charter. Most Siskiyou County Schools are closed and all schools in Tehama and Butte Counties are closed. Nearly all of the schools are tentatively planning to reopen after Spring Break.

Performances at the Redding Civic Auditorium and the Cascade Theatre through March have been canceled or postponed, and nearly every event that expects a large gathering of people has been canceled or postponed indefinitely.
