Red Bluff Police Officers were justified in killing a man who had attacked the Wal-Mart Distribution Center last month, according to preliminary findings by the Tehama County District Attorney’s Office. On the afternoon of June 27th Louis Wesley Lane rammed his car into the sprawling warehouse south of Red Bluff and opened fire. He only managed to kill one person, a man who was likely trying to come to his aid because he thought it was an accidental crash. Several others were wounded. The attack came during a shift change and there were several hundred employees in the parking lot. When officers arrived they faced large numbers of panicked civilians and had no information on who the shooter was, or even if there were more than one. Still, they quickly found Lane and shot him during a firefight. The D.A.’s Office has not completed their investigation, but released the preliminary summary Wednesday.
