Lightning Sparks Numerous Fires Across North State Forests

Many lightning fires are burning in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Most are very small. The Salmon Fire near Salmon Mountain has burned about 220 acres. The Round Fire started Monday southwest of Platina. The Forest Service has stopped forward progress at a couple of acres. A new fire start was reported Tuesday morning at Lake Shasta. The Bridge Fire is near Packers Bay. The Forest Service says forward progress has been stopped at 16 acres. At least 15 fires are known to be burning in the Klamath National Forest. Fires that were undoubtedly sparked by Monday night’s lighting storm have not yet been detected.
