2:30PM Tuesday: Butte Tops 1000 COVID-19 Cases, Reports 8th Death

Shasta County reported 7 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday for a total of 397. The cases range in age from women in there 20’s to a man in his 50’s. All of them were showing symptoms. The ninth death was reported last Wednesday. There are 54 active cases. 8 people are hospitalized, three of them in intensive care. 306 people are quarantined due to possible exposure.

Butte County, which is on the state watch list, surpassed 1000 cases on Tuesday with another 32 cases for a total of 1012. An 8th death was reported Tuesday. Tehama County reported 12 new cases Tuesday for a total of 246 with one death. There have been 5 in Trinity County. Glenn County is on the state watch list, with 345 cases. A 2nd death was reported on Tuesday. Lassen County has had 65 cases in the community, in addition to 537 in the prison population. Siskiyou County has had 73. There have been 231 in Humboldt County with 4 deaths. Modoc County reported its 3rd case on Monday.

23,077 tests have shown negative results in Shasta County. Those numbers don’t include people who have been tested for antibodies, as Vitalant has been doing with all blood donors. Anyone can still get tested for free, whether showing symptoms or not. The best option for testing can be determined by going to and clicking on “get tested”.

Shasta County is not on the governor’s watch list, but public health says the only way to prevent further restrictions is by following the guidelines of face covering, social distancing, avoiding groups, restricting travel and staying home when sick.

Noting that a number of businesses, particularly restaurants, have not been complying with state mandates, the county is now threatening to revoke county-issued permits and take court action against those scofflaw businesses.
