A cat burglar was chased off by a South Redding resident before being caught by police a block away early Monday morning. Shortly after 5AM, a woman called 9-1-1 from her home on Glengary Drive to say she had awakened to find her front door open and her car idling in the driveway. She ran to the car and found a man trying unsuccessfully to drive it away. The woman got the car keys, as well as her son’s wallet, away from the burglar before he fled on foot. She described him as an Asian man wearing a pink head wrap and a blue skirt, and carrying a purse. With that description, responding officers quickly detained 18-year-old Jadyn Edwards of Portland, Oregon. He was combative with officers and was taken into custody after a struggle, then taken to the home where the woman identified him as the burglar. Just two days prior and one block away, somebody had broken into a different home, taken car keys and stolen a BMW. Later that day Jadyn Edwards was arrested in Siskiyou County driving the stolen BMW, but he was released that evening, and made his way back to Redding.
