Man Arrested In 2017 Sentenced To 6 Years In Prison

A car thief who was caught in 2017 while changing a flat tire on a stolen vehicle has been sentenced to prison. 42-year-old Jesse James King stole a wheelchair accessible van from a woman’s private home in Redding. The next day Whiskeytown Park Rangers came upon the van alongside Whiskey Creek Road. King and a woman were busy changing the tire. Knowing the van had been reported stolen, the rangers took them into custody. King told them that a third person was nearby and armed with a gun, so the CHP and BLM were called to help search the area. Nobody else was found, but drug paraphernalia and a loaded pistol were found in the van. King was on parole at the time and had two prior strike convictions. He pled guilty to vehicle theft and has been sentenced to 6 years in state prison.
