The driver of a white pickup truck fled the scene after causing a five-car pile-up that closed North Market Street at the busiest time of day Thursday. At 4:45PM, traffic was stopped on northbound North Market Street at Quartz Hill Road when the pickup came barreling down across the bridge and rear-ended one vehicle, starting a chain reaction collision involving 5 cars. The pickup had some significant front end damage but the driver sped away northbound. Redding Police say it was a newer model, white, possibly with a lumber rack and construction materials in the bed. As for the other drivers, there were two minor injuries: Terri Copeland who was riding in an ABC Cab and Carol Patton who was in a Camry. Both complained of pain. Witnesses to the crash are urged to contact Redding Police.
