Public Health: South African Variant Kills 4 Of The 6 Known

Shasta County’s Coronavirus death toll remains at 219. Another 40 cases have been reported, as well as 1,248 negative tests. There have been 11,743 cases so far. An estimated 163 people have the virus right now, 9 people are hospitalized and 4 are in intensive care.


The South African variant of Coronavirus that has shown up in 6 patients in Shasta County has killed 4 of them. All 6 patients are connected, but the variant is more contagious and deadly than the original COVID-19. Vaccine is still showing to be effective in protecting against the variants.


Shasta is one of seven counties in California selected by the California Department of Public Health and Stanford University to participate in a study about COVID-19 antibodies.
