Monday marked the third anniversary of a dark day in Redding’s history. Redding Fire Inspector Jeremy Stoke died on July 26th, 2018 while saving evacuees from the quickly approaching Carr firestorm. Then-Chief Collen Kreider said there’s no question that Jeremy saved lives that day. Jeremy Stoke was a tough guy with a big heart who never minced his words, but backed up those words with actions that were undeniably selfless and, in the end, ultimately heroic. A memorial service held a few weeks after his death brought more than a thousand people to the Civic Auditorium, and hundreds more lined the route of his funeral procession to pay their respects to a man who earned respect. On Monday Redding Firefighters and Police Officers did a memorial workout in honor of Jeremy at the place where he made his final stand off Keswick Dam Road. His colleagues still remember a man who showed unmatched dedication to his profession and sweet devotion to his family. He was a hardcore San Francisco Giants fan, as shown by the Giants logo emblazoned on his coffin. An 18 year veteran of the Redding Fire Department, Stoke was just 37-years-old. He left behind a wife and two children.
