Road crews on Highway 36 in Trinity County are dealing with an unforeseen mess. At 4:35PM Wednesday afternoon, a big rig tanker truck hauling a tanker trailer left Highway 36 at the Highway 3 junction and rolled over. The tanks ruptured and spilled about 2,000 gallons of sticky gooey black road emulsion. About 3 hours later the substance had cooled enough that it stopped moving and work could begin on figuring out how to upright the truck and trailer to get them out of there. Cleanup of the hazardous material can’t could begin until the truck and trailer are removed.
