Long Sentence For Intermountain Arsonist

A man from eastern Shasta County has been sentenced for a series of arson fires. In April and May, CalFire responded to about a dozen intentionally started fires in the Burney area. Crews were able to contain all the fires fairly quickly, with the largest of them burning around two acres. Most of the fires were set in remote areas of the woods by someone traveling on foot. On May 7th a fire was burning alongside Highway 299 in the Johnson Park area, and next to it Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies found 24-year-old Cole Rainwater of Fall River Mills. Evidence linked Rainwater to several of the other arson fires that had remained unsolved. On Tuesday he pled guilty to arson and was sentenced to 13 years 8 months in state prison.
