Dixie Fire Burns Into 7th Week, Grows To Over 765,000 Acres

The Dixie Fire is now 765,700 acres and 48% contained. Highway 44 is closed at the junction with Highway 89 at Old Station. The Dixie is still active in Lassen Park, and extreme fire behavior is expected over the next couple of days. Lassen County has issued warnings for north of Highway 44 and east of Pittville Road. A number of evacuations have been eased. Crews have been protecting Taylorsville and the Genesee Valley. Contingency lines are being built in some areas of concern, such as Quincy and Greenhorn. Well over 700 homes are confirmed destroyed, along with hundreds of commercial and other structures. 12,000 remain threatened. 3 firefighters have been injured. The Dixie Fire started in the Feather River Canyon July 13th, apparently from a PG&E equipment failure.
