Last Thursday there were 310 new Covid cases confirmed in a single day- a new record for Shasta County. There were also 7 deaths by Covid reported that day, 5 of whom were in their 40s and 50s. It’s not an old person’s disease anymore. Only 16 of the new cases were 70 or older. 96 of them were under the age of 20. There are 979 known cases in the community, 89 in the hospital and 17 in the ICU. Vaccination is highly effective. One of the seven deaths was a fully vaccinated person, but that’s only the second of Shasta County’s 265 fatalities that was vaccinated. Information on vaccines and testing is at shastaready.org.
