The northbound lanes of Interstate Five were closed near Yreka after a fatal head-on crash involving a Maserati. At 12:20PM Monday afternoon the 2012 Maserati 4-door sedan was heading south on the northbound side of the freeway when a 2016 Ford F-250 pickup approached at 65 miles an hour in the same lane. The driver of the pickup saw the Maserati coming head-on and swerved into the other lane, but the Maserati driver swerved at the same time and they collided in the middle of the Klamath River Bridge. The Maserati driver died at the scene. The occupants of the pickup were transported with major injuries. Northbound traffic was diverted for a while to Highway 96 to bypass the scene. Witnesses are urged to call the CHP at 842-0530.
