A Red Bluff man is accused of being drunk when his pickup truck hit two pedestrians, killing one and critically injuring the other, according to the Corning Observer. At 10:15AM Wednesday morning, 37-year-old Brandon Spharler was driving a Chevy pickup on Luther Road when he reportedly struck two men who were walking along the side of the road. 41-year-old Carlos Sonney Bentazar, a Tehama County homeless man, was killed. 51-year-old Darrin Lester Rasmussen of Red Bluff was flown to Mercy Hospital in Redding with major injuries. Spharler has been charged with DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
