After burning 963,200 acres, the Dixie Fire is 90% contained. Weekend rains along with high overnight humidity levels provided significant help to firefighters. Fire is still very active in the Devil’s Punchbowl, and structure protection continues for Genesee, Dixie Valley, Lake Davis, Milford and Taylorsville. Fire has burned parts of five counties since it started in the Feather River Canyon July 13th, and consumed more than 1,300 structures. Highway 44 has reopened to one-way traffic control into Lassen County. Evacuations have been lifted in Shasta County and Plumas County. A firefighter on the Dixie Fire died of an illness and 3 others have been injured. PG&E is believed to be responsible for starting the fire two months ago.
