2PM Update: Fawn Fire Evacuations Expand Further

The fawn fire is still growing rapidly. A mandatory evacuation order includes all roads north of the intersection of Oasis, Old Oregon Trail and Akrich north to Pine Grove east of Interstate Five, and Holiday Road from Old Oregon Trail to Union School. Evacuate immediately. This is in addition to all roads in both directions off Bear Mountain Road between Dry Creek Road and Old Oregon Trail, as well as all roads off Old Oregon Trail from Bear Mountain Road north to Interstate Five. Everyone must leave these areas now. Shasta College is being evacuated and an evacuation shelter is at the Nazarene Church on North Bechelli Lane where the giant American Flag is. An evacuation warning, which means be prepared to leave, is now in effect for all areas west of Interstate 5 to the railroad tracks north of Pine Grove and south of Shasta Dam Boulevard, as well as east of the freeway as well as north of Highway 299 between Dry Creek Road and Old Oregon Trail. The Fawn Fire is more than 1200 acres with just 5% containment. The fire is burning in heavy timber on steep terrain with gusty winds causing erratic behavior and starting spot fires. 30-year-old Alexandra Souverneva of Palo Alto was arrested Wednesday night for starting the fire.
