Bureau Of Indian Affairs Breaths New Life Into Proposed Casino Relocation

Representatives of the Redding Rancheria have announced that their hopes of relocating Win-River Casino have found new life. The tribe says the Department of the Interior, which is the agency that could facilitate the move, reported in the Federal Register that it’s renewing its consideration of the draft environmental impact statement. The tribe wants to build a much larger casino, hotel and entertainment complex between Interstate 5 and the Sacramento River just south of South Bonneyview Road. The Bureau of Indian Affairs, under the Interior Department, would hold the land in trust for the tribe. Both the Redding City Council and the Shasta County Board of Supervisors have sent letters to the Bureau stating their opposition to the project. The tribe says they have shown their desire to mitigate any adverse impacts from the development and provide assistance on other infrastructure projects and social programs to benefit the city and the county.
