The Shasta County Board of Supervisors will discuss a mandatory vaccination policy imposed by the state during their regular meeting Tuesday. County employees working in certain high risk congregate and health care settings must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. For employees who refuse, the policy allows the county to temporarily place them in other available positions if practical. Otherwise, they must be fired. The state law doesn’t allow the county much wiggle room in the mandate, and they’re actually several days late in the implementation, which was supposed to be by September 30th. Unions representing county employees have apparently not made any protests to the policy. County staff makes it clear that the board’s hands are tied.
